A New Twist to Your Coffee: Espresso and Ginger Beer - Impact Roasters

Spring is in the air, and Easter is just around the corner. As the days get longer and warmer, many of us are looking for refreshing and invigorating ways to start our days. That is why we are excited to introduce a new coffee drink that is perfect for the season: the Double Espresso and Ginger Beer. This unique combination of bold espresso and spicy ginger beer is sure to wake up your taste buds.

The combination of coffee and ginger beer may sound unusual, but the flavors actually complement each other quite well. The ginger beer adds a layer of complexity and depth to the drink, while the coffee provides a rich and robust base. The result is a drink that is both refreshing and invigorating, with a satisfying blend of sweet, spicy, and bitter flavors.

Overall, this drink is a great way to experiment with different flavors and textures, and it is perfect for those looking for a unique and flavorful way to enjoy their coffee.

In this post, we will show you how to make this new drink at home. So, grab a glass, and let's get brewing, shall we?

Ingredients:

  • A double shot of espresso or 115 ml of strong coffee
  • 125 ml of ginger beer (if using strong coffee) OR 200 ml of ginger beer (if using 2 shots of espresso)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: lemon wedge or fresh mint for garnish

 Instructions:

  • Make a double shot of espresso (or make 115 ml of strong coffee) and let it cool down for a few minutes.
  • Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  • Slowly pour the ginger beer
  • Pour the cooled espresso
  • Garnish with a lemon wedge or fresh mint on top, if desired.
  • Enjoy!

Note: If you prefer a sweeter drink, you can add a splash of syrup or honey to the espresso. And if you don't have ginger beer on hand, you can substitute it with sparkling water mixed with ginger syrup. The key is to balance the bold coffee flavor with the spicy kick of ginger for a truly refreshing and unique drink.

Tips and tricks

If you want to brew strong coffee instead of using espresso shots, we recommend grinding your beans just before brewing. This is essential for getting the best flavor from your coffee beans, as they begin to lose flavor as soon as they are ground. Investing in a good quality grinder can make all the difference. There are different types of grinders available, but a burr grinder is recommended for a consistent grind size.

And remember, the temperature of the water you use for brewing coffee can also have a significant impact on the taste of your coffee. Ideally, you should aim for a water temperature between 90°C and 96°C. Using water that is too hot can result in a bitter brew, while water that is too cold can lead to under-extraction and a weak cup of coffee.

By taking these steps, you will be able to enjoy a rich and flavorful coffee base for your Double Espresso and Ginger Beer drink, or as we call it Espresso Ginger.

And great news, we will be adding the Double Espresso and Ginger Beer to our menu very soon! We are Refining our Organic Practices

October 17, 2024

Impact Roasters is refining its organic practices by no longer pursuing official organic certification for its Ethiopian coffee. The decision stems from the increasing bureaucracy around certification, which detracted from focusing on sustainability and responsible sourcing. Despite the lack of formal certification, their coffee remains organic in practice, as farmers still use traditional methods without harmful chemicals. Impact Roasters continues to work directly with Ethiopian farmers, ensuring high quality, ethical coffee without compromise.

The Ultimate Guide to Coffee Grind Sizes: How to Choose the Right Grind for Your Brewing Method

April 25, 2023

A perfect cup of coffee starts with the right grind size, which influences the extraction rate and flavor profile. Using the wrong grind size can lead to under-extraction, resulting in a weak and sour taste, or over-extraction, causing bitterness. Understanding the relationship between grind size and brewing method is essential. Coarse grinds work best for French press, medium-coarse for pour-over, medium for filter coffee, and fine grinds for espresso. However, adjustments may be needed based on equipment and bean type, particularly when brewing with Ethiopian beans. Experimenting will help you find the ideal balance for a flavorful cup.
